🛎️ Hotel Review: Native Manchester
Welcome to the 18 new subscribers since our last edition … If you are new here, my name is Jimmy McLoughlin, a former Downing Street adviser turned podcaster. I write this notebook on the most interesting things I have seen on the future of work, jobs, technology and somewhat occasionally politics.
🚀 5th series has launched this morning
Plenty of people are quizzing the Governor on inflation and interest rates, but we delved far deeper into the Bank of England in an exclusive 45 minute interview with the Governor, Andrew Bailey.
How does the Bank, a 300 year institution relatable to a new generation, how can they attract new and diverse talent?
We covered an extraordinary amount:
how you go about de stabilising another country’s economy.
where he sees jobs of the future coming from
how a 300 year old institution recruits for the future
why he sees a big fintech future in Leeds
what he makes of the future of crypto and whether he owns any
when we’ll see a female governor
how WFH has impacted the economy.
The full video is here and below.
🥂🥂 Champagne competition
To celebrate getting Season 5 launched, we are giving away some Champagne or a tasting box of Binary Botanical which includes some non alcoholic options.
Any engagement you can give the video or the podcast during a launch week, whether that be listening / liking / rating / subscribing / forwarding, makes a big difference.
Therefore if you send this email to three friends / colleagues / housemates, we will put you into the prize draw to win one of three bottles of Wine Society champagne or a Binary Botanical tasting pack, which I waxed lyrical about last week.
For every set of three friends you send it to, we’ll put your name in the hat again, so send to thirty friends and we’ll put you in 10 times (did that without calculator!)
Important: Use the link below, competition is only valid for GB
Maybe this week might see us get more listeners than Piers Morgan …
Piers Morgan and GB News
A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about why do we have so much political media? It has been followed up by a post from Adrian Woolridge of Bloomberg and former Bagehot columnist for the Economist heherere
Also, Scott Bryan who is fast becoming one of the top TV/cultural commentators in the UK has written about why all these new political shows are failing, it is a really good and insightful examination which looks at why Britain and the US are different, available here.
He also reveals that at the end of Piers Morgan’s show, there are just 10,000 viewers left, we are aiming for more listeners to the podcast than that and my face isn’t on the side of every London bus, yet.
(Leo, can we enquire with TfL how much a Bus Ad would cost please? Just one bus, and then we can put all across socials. Thanks, Jimmy)
⚽ 👑 Prince Charles, in the away end at a football match?
This video, looks like Prince Charles is queing up to get into away ground, and can hear the atmosphere from the concourse, I have watched it a lot. I can just imagine his majesty having had an extra pint in the Dog ‘n’ Duck and is now pushing his luck getting into the ground for kick off.
You’ll have to click to expand it, it has been watched 400k times, of which I think I make up a quarter.
Football season only finished yesterday, and I am already looking forward to next season.

Things are busy, really busy at Jimmy’s Jobs towers as we embark on some big expansion plans, fancy coming in at a start up on the ground floor?
Not looking for masses of experience, desire and aptitude are more important.

🛎️ Hotel Review: Native Manchester
I am going to be visiting Manchester more and more in the coming weeks and months as I do more with the City (am speaking next month on what the future of Manchester looks like, as I mentioned last week)
A challenge of writing a notebook, is how do you make it not sound like a trip advisor review? Slightly disappointing that hotel breakfast didn’t start until 730, not even a pastry available, which is true …
In my 20s, I never really got the fuss of a fancy hotel, largely wanting to be out and about in a city I was staying in … I was probably Premier Inn target market personified.
However, now with two kids, if I am going to be staying away from them, I want somewhere that doesn’t make it feel like a chore and chances are I am going to need to be able to put some extra hours in on the laptop, most probably into this notebook!
Native Manchester is set in an old Warehouse just by Piccadily station, and the whole atmosphere feels very cool. It very much feels like if trendy Monocle set up a hotel it would look like this, big expansive lobby doubling as co-working space, several dining options, a bar serving cocktails with soft jazz playing out on a Sunday evening, a Gym, called Blok and even a boutique cinema.
The expansive lobby is deliberately set up to be a co-working space, which I would say was at 80% occupancy on the Monday morning, which is more than most offices that I see at the moment, a drawback was the loud techno music, making a call almost next to impossible.
Clearly Native Manchester is going to be the future of hotels, where both business and personal intertwine more than ever before, they are 90% of the way there.
End of the Notebook …
Building an audience whether it is through podcasts or newsletters is flipping hard, and it predominantly relies on word of mouth so if you think someone might find these emails interesting - please do forward it.
‘Feedback is a gift’ was the last thing we were told on my course at Stanford and it has always stuck with me …
So feel free to drop us a line with whatever your feedback is on the notebook or podcast, whether that be an amazing guest you’d like me to feature, or a news story about the future of jobs/work - hit reply and let us know or email us on - hello@jobsofthefuture.co
