🚀 BGF Scale Up Week
Welcome to the THREE new subscribers (perhaps a Sunday evening in the middle of the August Bank Holiday weekend is not a good time to send the notebook, or it was just boring content!)
If you are new here, my name is Jimmy McLoughlin, a former Downing Street adviser turned podcaster. I write this notebook on the most interesting things I have seen on the future of work, jobs, technology and politics.
🚀🚀 What are the jobs of the future?
Jane Hamilton asked for my thoughts in The Sun, it is a conversation I have had with a lot of entrepreneurs, I wanted to make the sectors as broad as possible, so that it could appeal to a wide audience.
We are going to be doing much more on specific jobs, so let us know what you think.
1.DATA CRUNCHING: Looking at the numbers, for example, where people are clicking on websites allows firms to calculate demand for products. You can earn £40k but you’ll need good maths results.
2. SOFTWARE ENGINEER: These people ensure that websites work and can keep up with the changing nature of what companies and customers are doing
3. COMMUNITY MANAGERS: Brands are turning to their customers and their own workforce to be ambassadors for their products. A community manager helps to build a team of advocates for a company. It is a great job for those who consider themselves a “people person”.
4. FACILITATORS: Born from the hybrid and working from home culture, facilitators host internal workshops with remote and in-office workers, so firms can maximise the impact of ideas from all staff.
5. UI/UX DESIGNER: With so many companies selling online, a user interface or user experience designer is the equivalent of a shop layout designer, making websites easy to navigate.
6. CONTENT CREATOR: Being an influencer isn’t just about posing on Instagram. Creative types can find work as digital marketers, creating viral ideas that attract customers on TikTok and LinkedIn to new and emerging platforms.
7. LEARNING DESIGNER: Modern firms have to upskill staff to remain competitive. Learning designers are “corporate teachers” who help workers to retrain as the jobs market changes.
8. AUDIO AND VIDEO EDITORS: Podcasts and videos are booming but professional products are more complex to make. A good editor can be self-taught on a programme like Audacity.

📻 Five Live appearance
On Monday afternoon, I will be joining the great Nihal Arthanayake on his Five Live on his show between 1330-1500 to give live reaction to the Conservative Party leadership result.
He has just written a book on how to have better conversations - a skill he knows plenty about seeing as he has to have three hours of them a day!
I’ll tweet out a more accurate time of when I am appearing tomorrow.
⭐⭐⭐ Cheap Michelin Star restaurants
We are all watching our wallets a little closer at the moment, but we all like the finer things in life and that is why I wanted to recommend this post from London’s hottest new food and drink media start up, The Sauce.
They have profiled the 10 cheapest Michelin star menus in London, worth checking out here (and signing up to the subsequent newsletter.
The list of London’s cheapest Michelin star’s is available here.
Now just to find a babysitter ….
😂 Let’s be more Frank …
Now I see which of my links get the most clicks, and it is always the ‘funny clip’.
One of the things I find most enjoyable about being a young Dad, is just how exciting my 0 and 2 year old get about things.
The sheer joy of being presented with a Cadbury’s biscuit finger.
As we get older, we create more inhibitions for ourselves, we are supposed to become more dignified.
As the saying goes ‘don’t grow old, it’s a trap’.
And it makes me think of this tweet from Paul Graham, the Y Combinator founder (one of the **dream** Jimmy’s Jobs of the Future guests)
I think of this every time I do a new TikTok!
So here is this week’s clip from Frank Rothwell, the Chairman of Oldham Athletic, who was speaking on national TV as Man Utd were 4-0 down to Brentford.
There’s so much happening, the flat crap, the massive orange mic, and the terrific pay off line.
But what I love most of all, is the excitement.
So, this funny video section of the new website, will be now known, as let’s be more Frank … and enjoy ourselves more.
